Our Science Explained

Some of the research our scientists do looks at the basic way materials form or how the molecules within those materials line up. While important for understanding how things work, this type of research is sometimes hard to explain and it isn't always clear how such discoveries can help us out in our day to day lives.

Other research projects have a more specific goal or application in mind. We've developed the following one-page descriptions of a few of those projects to help you understand what we do at Ames Laboratory and how we're working to "Create Materials and Energy Solutions."
