Benefits Meeting in January 2002
Current and former Ames Laboratory workers who may have been exposed to beryllium, silica or radiation are invited to attend a meeting in Burlington, IA, the week of January 21st to learn how to apply for benefits, including filling out forms, in connection with the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act. The act provides $150,000 in lump-sum compensation, as well as related medical expenses, to workers who are seriously ill because they were exposed to beryllium, silica or radiation while working for the Department of Energy, its contractors or subcontractors. It also provides benefits to some survivors and $50,000 lump-sum payments and medical expenses to some uranium workers who received benefits under the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act.For more information about the law, call, toll-free, 1-866-888-3322 or visit the Web site at www.dol.gov.
