Overview
Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) is a powerful tool to investigate materials’ properties from a microscopic point of view. This NMR group developed a low temperature (down to 0.035 K) NMR facility and strengthens the Ames Laboratory’s capabilities for microscopic studies. The objectives of the proposed research are to explore and understand various intriguing phenomena originating from strong correlations between electrons (spins) in new materials. The main focus is on (1) new quantum phenomena originating from spin frustrations and spin chirality in new low‐dimensional quantum spin systems, and molecular nanomagnets, and (2) the effects of magnetism on superconductivity in recently discovered iron pnictide‐based superconductors and heavy fermion systems.
