Novel In Crystal Structures and Unusual Wetting Layer Diffusion
Controlling crystal structure on the nanoscale for In/Si(111). Bulk Indium grows bct but the In nanoislands grow in two different crystal structures: fcc islands with hexagonal(or triangular) and bct islands with rectangular shapes.
T=204K total θ= 5ML, deposited stepwise. Unusual low temperature mobility of the In wetting layer: a sequence of six 200x200μm2 images showing how the bct part of the mixed island (white) grows in height by 20 layers while the fcc islands grow by one layer. (The numbers identify each island at different times).
