SCIENTIFIC
AND TECHNICAL INFORMATION
The Scientific and Technical
Information Program (STI) was established to capture and share our
researcher's STI, i.e., journal articles, conference proceedings,
research and development reports, theses, and software with the National
and International scientific community. The Laboratory's STI Program
satisfies Department of Energy's (DOE) statutory dissemination requirements,
promotes scientific advancement, and ensures a fair return on taxpayer
investment. The significant goals of the STI Program are as follows:
- Submit all technical
information produced to the Laboratory STI Office to ensure that
DOE Patent Clearance Authorization is received prior to the document's
dissemination (verbal or written).
- Assert DOE's Copyright
Notice in each scientific and technical article
first produced or composed under the Laboratory's Contract and
submitted for journal publication or similar means of dissemination,
which reflects the Government's non-exclusive, paid-up, irrevocable
and world-wide license.
- Submit all Transfer
of Copyright Notices to the STI Office for processing to ensure
accuracy of these contractual documents.
- Ensure that purchase
orders for publication charges/reprints/color charges are appropriately
authorized and processed consistently and promptly.
- Capture all technical
work produced by Ames Laboratory researchers for the Laboratory's
central archive for future informational searches, historical
purposes and for fulfilling requests for manuscripts from research
peers.
- Provide Office of
Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI) with electronic copies
of all technical products for posting on DOE’s official
technical information website, which is accessible at http://www.osti.gov
- Produce STI Summary
Reports for reporting purposes and the informational needs of
Ames Laboratory researchers and management.
To help achieve the Laboratory's
STI goals, several short procedures follow for submitting STI (i.e., journal articles, conference proceeding, research & development
reports and theses). In addition, several guidance items are discussed
regarding submitting page chargs, preparing Transfer of Copyright Forms and gaining access to scientific
and technical information sites.
