b.  Other.  Dr. Coats has been on the Environmental Protection Agency-Scientific Review Panel, Environmental Biology (1986-1999); Scientific Advisory Panel, Pesticide Fate Studies (1998), National Institutes of Health- Toxicology Review Panel (1986-1987, 1996-1997) Entomological Society of America-Bussart Award Committee, Nominating Committee, Section B-Physiology, Biochemistry, Toxicology; Section B, Program Chairman, North Central Branch (1995). He has held several positions in the American Chemical Society, Agrochemicals Division, including: Chairman (1992), Chairman-Elect/Program Chairman (1991), Vice Chairman (1990), Executive Committee (1987-1992), Nominating Committee Chairman (1993), Awards Committee Chairman (1994-2002), Strategic Planning Committee (1993-1999), Alternate Councilor (1998-2001) Councilor (2002-2004).
