Ames Lab researcher R. Bruce Thompson loses battle with cancer
Ames Laboratory researcher and program director R. Bruce Thompson passed away Monday evening, March 7 following a long battle with cancer.
Ames Laboratory Director Alex King informed employees with the following message:
"It is with deep sadness that I inform you that Bruce Thompson passed away yesterday evening at about 8:00 pm. It was peaceful, with his wife Anne and their son Kirk in attendance.
Bruce was a valued friend and colleague. For many years he led the Ames Laboratory efforts in non-destructive evaluation, and he had a career that was highly distinguished and extraordinarily active, until the end.
Please join me in expressing the sympathy of the Ames Laboratory to Bruce's family."
A gathering of friends will take place on Thursday, March 10, from 5-7 p.m. at Reiman Gardens near the Iowa State campus. A memorial service is planned for Friday, March 11, at Collegiate Presbyterian Church, 159 Sheldon Avenue, Ames.
Memorials may be made to the R. Bruce Thompson Engineering Scholarship in Non-Destructive Evaluation, payable to the ISU Foundation.
