| Abstract | The extension of Miedema's semi-empirical model to ternary systems by means of an energy minimization scheme was implemented to demonstrate a number of physical phenomena associated with select ternary alloys. in order to gain a thermodynamic understanding of glass forming ability of Zr based alloys, a combination of extended Miedema's model and lattice strain energies has been invoked. The extended Miedema approach has also been used to study the phase selection during crystallization for amorphous Zr-Cu-Ni alloys. Also extended Miedema's model was used to illustrate its applicability to study the phase stability of Mo-Nb-Si alloys around M3Si composition (M = Mo, Nb), by predicting the amount of Nb (30 at.%) required to destabilize the structure.
